Spring fever

Here it is, a beautiful Friday in glorious Harney County. So far this week we have had torrential downpours, a tornado (alleged tornado I should say) and now springtime sunshine. It is such a beautiful day today, you almost forget about all the other stuff.

Eli had T-ball practice yesterday. I still do not understand how all those little kids didn't blow away. It was so cold and windy. Poor Noah just wanted to snuggle with mommy and daddy. All the better for me I tell ya!

Speaking of T-ball, tomorrow is Eli's first game. It will be very entertaining, I am sure. I certainly hope that he does well, because I wrote several letters to the editor in order to make sure he got to play. One of the letters was not very nice....

More to come...

Pie oh my

This is a berry pie I baked for the Easter BBQ. I didn't get to taste it, as it was gone. But it sure was pretty to look at!

Lonestar Homecoming

This was a book about a woman named Gracie and her daughter Hope. It is the third book in a series, but I have not read the other books in the series. It does well as a stand alone book though. Gracie and Hope have an action packed adventure from the very first pages. On Gracie's wedding day, federal agents come to her house and are shot by members of the cartel. Her soon to be husband is involved somehow. Gracie and Hope leave the house immediately and go to the train station, Gracie in her wedding dress, and take a train to Texas with no plans and no money. When she gets there, the story begins.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It is a Christian book, so there are some religious tones. It is not overpowering in it's inclusion of religion though. There is also a beautiful love story, and a story revolving around Gracie's past that is interesting. And there is lot of action.

I would recommend this book as a light, enjoyable read to anyone. It was very fast reading as well.

Citizen Dick

Citizen Dick was a hard book to describe. I found it to be pretty darn funny at times. I didn't get a chance to just sit down and read the book at one time, so I would pick up where I left of, sometimes days later. I found myself lost when I restarted the book up until the middle of the book where the two storylines converge. This is not entirely a bad thing though. There are so many funny offshoots to this book, that even though you may not be entirely sure how it fits into the big picture, you are still laughing your butt off.

I will issue this warning, if you are offended at foul language and potty humor, this isn't the book for you. It has very crude humor. I happened to enjoy this book, and will read more books from Richard Arneson.

Funny faces

Don't look now but these are some funny faces! They are even adorable in these pictures!

My three boys

These are the men in my life..... Enough said :)

Two bugs in a rug

The other day my little munchkins were rolling themselves up in a big blanket and playing nicely with each other. We got the biggest kick out of them, just having a great time playing by themselves. These pictures don't really do them justice, but just trust me when I say they are really cute!

Growing kids

The other kids that is! We have had these little buggers in the house for a little more than a week and they sure are growing. These pictures are from last week so you can't see how much they have grown, but take my word for it. They get to go outside and spend time in the garden fence when it is warm, but we have had some really cold weather since they were born. Pretty soon they will have to go back to the ranch and live in the barn, but for now we get to watch them grow in the house...

Little calves

Here are some pictures of this year's calves that I took while visiting grandma's house a couple of weeks ago. They are growing so fast already, and I am glad that I got a few shots of them as little guys. I really love the group picture, they are really adorable!

Easter Hunt Saturday

It seems that the City Easter egg hunt is destined to be cold and miserable most years. We certainly hit the cold and snowy jackpot this year! We almost skipped the event altogether, but Eli decided that he wanted to go, so we walked down to the park and participated. There are always a bunch of people so it is a pretty exciting event for the whole town. We sure had a good time, even if we were freezing!

Hand of Fate

Here is the inside flap info:
"When the host of a popular radio talk show is murdered, the suspects almost outnumber his millions of listeners.

Outspoken radio talk show host Jim Fate dies tragically when poisonous gas fills the studio while his polarizing show, "The Hand of Fate," is on air.

In the ensuing panic, police evacuate downtown Portland-and the triple treat of FBI Special Agent Nicole Hedges, crime reporter Cassidy Shaw, and Federal Prosecutor Allison Pierce piecing together the madness, motive, and mystery of what just happened. And this time, it's personal since one of the women was secretly dating the host and has access to his home...as well as possible evidence.

In the days following Fate's murder, these three colleagues and friends confront a betrayal within the team while unearthing the not-so-public life of Jim Fate. Together, they must uncover the stunning truths of who killed him, how close the killer really is, and the twisted motive for this cold-blooded murder."

This was a good book in that it was entertaining. I love a good murder mystery, and this book delivered. This is the second "Triple Threat" novel, and while it does stand alone it would be nice in my mind to read the first book to introduce the characters.

The characters of Cassidy, Nicole and Allison are all very real women that are easy to like. One is an aging newscaster that is having trouble with a younger woman at work. That is an easy problem to relate to and makes her very easy to like. Another suffers a personal tragedy during the book, and the other is a single mother who starts to think about dating.

Another thing that appealed to me about this book is that it is written about talk radio. I am a talk radio junky, and it just made the book that much more enjoyable. My only criticism is that the book was a little difficult to follow at first for me, but I think that could have been resolved by reading the first in the series. It is action packed from the beginning though, so it is nice jump right into the action.

Some of the spring babies

Spring is here, even though our weather leaves something to be desired. My doe (mama goat) had 5 kids yesterday. That is an a crazy lot of babies for one mom, so we brought 2 of the little ones home. They will stay inside, with diapers on, for a couple of weeks until the other does freshen (have babies), and then these little ones will be stronger and can have real goat milk from other goats. It is so much fun having little ones in the house! My dear husband is very understanding, and he just goes with the flow. Eli has taken the role of mother hen, and Noah thinks they are little personal toys just for him. Even Sydney want so help out!
